Joining Primary Source in 2009, Lina brings 15 years of life experience living in Singapore, Manila, and Tokyo, and has traveled extensively within East and Southeast Asia. Brought up by Japanese parents, Lina is fluent in Japanese and attended a public Japanese elementary school, Singapore American School, the American School in Japan, and International School Manila. She earned her bachelors degree in biology and environmental studies from Oberlin College in Ohio and her masters degree in learning and teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. During her time at Oberlin, Lina participated in the Japan-America Student Conference; spent a month living and volunteering at an orphanage in Cavite, Philippines; taught elementary school students about environmental issues; and led the efforts to build a vegetable garden at the Oberlin High School as a way to cultivate students' relationships to their natural environment. At Harvard, Lina worked with Harvard Medical School's Center for Health and the Global Environment and developed a curriculum on how humans depend on and impact the ocean. In her free time, Lina enjoys cooking, taking long walks, traveling, reading, and practicing Japanese tea ceremony.
