"Ambassadors of Peace:"Event Celebrates Primary SourceTwo hundred friends of Primary Source and family members of co-founder Anne Watt and her husband John celebrated the achievements of the organization on October 20th, 2006. The guests braved a tumultuous autumn storm to arrive at the Wellesley College Club, which was filled to capacity. During cocktails, scholars, school superintendents, current and former board members, and educator-alumni of Primary Source courses and study tours were entertained in global style by a Chinese Fan dancer and the Boston Community Choir, until the guests were escorted to the dining room by an African Djelli, a traditional African drummer. Tributes to the Watts were offered by Primary Source co-founder, Anna Roelofs, history teacher Shirley Moore Huettig, Bentley College professor Shiping Zheng and Jennifer Watt. The evening concluded with a Chinese Lion Dance which culminated in the offering of $110,000, funds raised recently to establish the Primary Source Founders Endowment. This permanent fund will enable the organization to provide exceptional professional development to inspire teacher and learning for a changing world, now and in the future. Guest Sharon Crain, representing the China Institute in New York, made her gift to the endowment with the accompanying words: "I marvel at the bridges you [Anne and John] have built between China and America. You are indeed 'ambassadors of peace' at a time when our fragile world needs leadership and vision." |
