Cambodian Refugee Poetry and Photography in LowellPlease join Primary Source and Samkhann Khoeun for a very special event. On Tuesday, May 11, at the Rogers Middle School in Lowell, Mr. Khoeun will present O! Maha Mount Dangrek, a new collection of poetry written by the late Buddhist monk and Khmer Rouge survivor Ly Van Aggadipo. Born in Cambodia in 1917, Ly Van and his family lived through the Khmer Rouge genocide and emigrated to Lowell as refugees in the 1970s. The poems included in the collection reflect on the violence and brutality of the former regime and the possibility of love thriving in such a difficult time. In addition to reading selections from O! Maha Mount Dangrek, Mr. Khoeun will share his personal stories of survival and resiliency. Read more about Aggadipo's story and Khoeun's work in a recent Boston Globe article. O! Maha Mount Dangrek |
