Exploring Latin America Culture Through Food
On Wednesday, March 5th, educators in Primary Source's 5-day Latin America seminar series engaged their senses and were put to work creating a feast of dishes from several Latin American regions. In small groups, participants explored the cuisines of Peru (ceviche), Mexico (guacamole), and several areas of the Caribbean (peanut soup, heart of palm salad, and fruit salad). While the ceviche was marinating and the peanut soup simmering, participants faced a challenge: taste (or smell) 10 unknown ingredients and guess their origins. This fun and informative quiz stretched teachers' senses and sparked their curiosity. Beth Forrest, Assistant Director of Programs in Food and Wine at Boston University, provided materials, recipes, guidance, and valuable background information to ensure a successful and educational meal! |
