First Online Course Launches October 2009

Primary Source's first online course, The Enduring Legacy of Ancient China, is now open to teachers nationwide. The course will feature Primary Source's high-quality professional development in a new, more flexible format for educators of all grade levels and subjects. Participating teachers will also have the chance to explore technologies, such as podcasts, screencasts, and online mapping tools, with great potential for classroom use.

In this exciting format, Enduring Legacy will provide a thorough introduction to Chinese geography, belief systems, art, and social and political structures. As they do in Primary Source's face-to-face courses, educators will work with prominent China scholars, such as New Mexico State University's Ken Hammond.

Professor Hammond is looking forward to providing a scholarly perspective on Chinese history and culture in the Enduring Legacy course. "I'm really delighted to be working with Primary Source on the Enduring Legacy course," he noted. "This kind of creative online forum for educators gives us a chance to work together to broaden the field of Chinese studies in an interactive and dynamic way. I think teachers will be able to draw on the course for their own development, and for specific ideas, themes and materials to use in the classroom. I'm particularly excited about the opportunity for online feedback and response."

Full details and registration information are available on Primary Source's website, and teachers who sign up by September 14 can take advantage of a 20% discount on registration fees.
