Primary Source Educator Named National Council for the Social Studies Elementary Teacher of the Year
Marcy Prager, a teacher at Brookline's Driscoll Elementary School and a longtime participant in Primary Source's programs, has been selected as the recipient of a prestigious national award for educators for her innovative and internationally minded work with young students. In August 2009, The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) recognized her extraordinary accomplishments by naming her Elementary Teacher of the Year. Ms. Prager has taken numerous Primary Source courses and traveled on a study tour with Primary Source to Japan, experiences that have helped her to globalize her classroom. In addition to her participation in Primary Source's programs, she has led workshops for the organization, helping other educators to bring international topics and themes into the elementary classroom. Ms. Prager was a clear winner in a group of very strong applicants for the NCSS award. The subcommittee that selected her noted that "Marcy lept to the top of the stack for her ingenuity, integration, diversity and lived commitment to democratic ideals and citizenry in the classroom and beyond." She will be honored at a special reception during the NCSS Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, November 13, 2009. |
