Bringing the Joy of Art and Culture into the Classroom: The Music of Strangers 29 August 2016 Primary Source was thrilled when Silkroad called this spring to suggest collaboration on an exciting new project. Silkroad is the brainchild of celebrated cellist Yo Yo Ma, who founded the ensemble in 1998 as a way to explore how the arts can advance global understanding. Silkroad works to connect the world through the arts, focusing its efforts in three areas: musical performance, learning programs, and cultural entrepreneurship. Our collaboration involved helping Silkroad inform teachers about its new documentary The Music of Strangers, showing now in theaters around the country. Silkroad has created specific curricula about aspects of the storyline and selected sub-plots, including China, Iran, Syria, and the Globalization of Culture. They include numerous resources and film clips, including some from this film, and all are free for teachers. To watch a trailer of the movie, click here, and to access the curricula, click here.
