Primary Source Helps Administrators Develop Globally-Minded Schools

Primary Source continues to provide innovative leadership in the rapidly growing field of global education. On December 9, 2008, staff members Julia de la Torre and Maggie Kaiser conducted a daylong workshop for the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association (MSSAA).

The seminar, 21st Century Administrators: Leading Globally Minded Schools, offered school leaders the opportunity to develop a plan for integrating global content into their districts' curricula.

Participants considered the role of global education in student development, shared high quality resources, and discussed best practices with leaders in Needham and Hingham, where an international school culture is already the norm. School leaders such as Tom Gwin of Winchester High School found one workshop activity, developing a plan for a global initiative, "very valuable in thinking about strategies for my school and district." This activity produced a variety of possible approaches, including the redesign of a school lobby with a global theme, a one-year partnership with a school in another country, and curriculum inspired by Thomas Friedman's The World is Flat. Danielle Klingaman, principal of the L.G. Nourse Elementary School in Norton, came away with "ideas that could be implemented with minimal funding."

Primary Source can help you create a practical plan to globalize your school or district.
