Primary Source Recognized for Innovative Practices
This spring, Primary Source was recognized in the state's first annual Nonprofit Excellence Awards, hosted by the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network (MNN), for its efforts to bring global perspectives into schools across the nation. Primary Source was nominated for the MNN Innovation Award and noted during Massachusetts' Nonprofit Awareness Day at the State House on June 8. Massachusetts' Nonprofit Awareness Day was established in 2008 by Governor Deval Patrick, who attended the June 8 ceremony. Governor Patrick spoke to the assembled group, stating "I value the awards and your contributions." Massachusetts House of Representatives Speaker Robert DeLeo affirmed, "Every day, nonprofits in Massachusetts make a difference in our state, enriching the lives of our children, our families and our communities. From caring for the sick to supporting the arts, from inspiring our young people to raising funds and awareness of eminently worthy causes our states, nonprofits play an important role in improving the lives of people all over the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I want to congratulate today's award winners as well as the numerous deserving nominees for their accomplishments this year. I truly look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the Massachusetts nonprofit organizations for many years to come." Primary Source's nomination for the Innovation Award reflects the unique and effective model of scholar, teacher, and community collaboration that the organization has built in support of global education. Over the past twenty years, Primary Source has also developed strong relationships with public and independent schools and districts, helping to bring high-quality teaching resources on Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and the diverse cultures of the United States into the classroom. Primary Source was proud to be considered for the statewide award and to participate in the State House event.
