Study Tours
Primary Source's study tours are designed to deepen educators' knowledge of the world so that they are able to better enhance cultural understanding in the classroom. Participants travel with other educators who share a passion for world history and cultural exchange. In addition to visiting historical sites including the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Golden Temple in Kyoto, or the Palace of the Asantehene in Kumasi, tour participants have the opportunity to visit schools where they meet with local teachers. On some tours, individual one to two night home-stays allow tour participants a glimpse into family life of another society.
Tours are led by experienced Primary Source staff members and leading scholars from local universities and colleges. Participants will receive individualized support as they conduct research on their own area of interest. Upon return, participants are required to complete a curriculum project, which they will share with their communities and school districts.
To qualify for participation in a tour, educators must first attend a Primary Source seven-day summer institute or full-day seminar series on the history and culture of the country they will visit.
