The Position
Primary Source seeks a Marketing and Development Associate to execute the organization’s marketing efforts, fundraising strategies, and events. As Marketing and Development Associate, you will work with the Executive Director and Director of Development to create a communications strategy and schedule to support the program and development teams; and implement email, social media, and other written communications, such as newsletters, letter, and brochures. You will also manage the donor database in Raiser’s Edge, oversee the organization’s website, and assist with coordinating fundraising events. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with an interest in building a career in the nonprofit sector. It requires a high-level of independence, teamwork, creativity, flexibility, comfort with autonomy, and a willingness to do the hands-on work necessary to implement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the donor database in Raiser’s Edge and utilize it to create queries, contact lists, monitor financial results, and process donations.
  • Create and distribute email and other written communications, including promotional emails, fundraising appeals, newsletters, and event invitations.
  • Assist with coordinating outreach and fundraising events.
  • Develop publicity materials using Adobe InDesign and manage work with graphic designer on larger projects.
  • Strategize fundraising and outreach communications and events with senior management.
  • Maintain and update the organization’s website and social media.
  • Help to create and distribute written communications as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including an impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills, including an ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Professional experience maintaining a website and posting social media content (Basic understanding of HTML a plus)
  • Experience with donor databases (Raiser’s Edge a plus)
  • Basic graphic design skills (InDesign a plus)
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Comfort with technology and ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Primary Source
  • A deep respect for the work of K-12 educators
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a marketing, communications, or development role required
