Primary Source & Illinois Education Association Announce New Partnership

29 March 2016

Primary Source and the Illinois Education Association (IEA) have announced a new partnership to provide educators throughout Illinois with high-quality professional development and global education programming. As part of the new partnership, Primary Source will create and implement a variety of IEAinterdisciplinary, content-based global learning services, accessible to the IEA’s more than 130,000 members. The relationship represents the first time Primary Source has officially collaborated with a statewide teachers’ union, and demonstrates the growing scope of the Massachusetts-based nonprofit’s global education work.

Bob LaRocca, Primary Source’s Director of Strategic Collaborations, said: "We are dedicated to advancing global education in K-12 classrooms across the region and nation. By expanding our work with teachers in Illinois and formally partnering with the IEA, we increase the availability of exciting opportunities for students to deeply and meaningfully learn about the world around them."

The IEA sought the services of Primary Source in order to help bolster the union’s efforts to support its members with diverse professional learning options. Mary Jane Morris, Director of the IEA’s Center for Educational Innovation, said: "Our members will experience a great benefit from the partnership as they bring new tools and global resources into their classrooms."

Primary Source’s services for the IEA will include resources and professional development focused around topics such as world histories, international themes, multicultural issues, and social justice matters. The partnership will begin this April.

"We’re thrilled we can help meet the demand that Illinois educators have for reliable and stimulating professional growth opportunities," said LaRocca. "Given our 26-year experience of working with schools and educators, we know that robust global education offerings will have a great impact on teaching, learning, and student achievement in the state."
